Councillor Amanda Cooper is pleased to announce Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre are conducting a Men's Leadership program "Skilled Mates" on 14th, 15th and 16th March 2008.
The aim of "Skilled Mates" is to provide hands-on-training for men who intend to work closely with other men within the community, het who currently lack the experience or training.
Currently there are few such opportunities and a lack of trained men willing to act as leaders or support people for local men and/or youth. This training is of a high quality and would provide a strong foundation for work or future training around counselling.
Councillor Cooper said "This program has the capacity to fill a much needed training gap within our community and I encourage your support."
The program is designed by men for men, is accessible to all interested men - no entry requirements. The course will provide training to develop a wide range of interpersonal skills. Acknowledges and recognizes the modern challenges that men face in their daily lives and delivers skills in dealing with changing personal, family and social responsibilities. Combines and develops the latest knowledge and skills in a 35 hour course.
Skilled Mates provides the option to proceed to a TAFE qualification (with an additional 15 hours) and provides pathways for further training in a specialist communication competency.
Enrolments for the course are steady and the Community Development Project Manager for Pine Rivers, Redcliffe and Caboolture Family and Community Consortium anticipates that these workshops will provide a stable foundation of counselling, leadership and mentoring skills for participants. It is also hoped the workshops will have a positive flow on effect into the local community.
