Cr Carol Cashman (Bracken Ridge Ward) went into bat for the local Bald Hills community when the State Government proposed boundary changes to the suburb resulting in the proposal being abandoned.
Late last year Cr Cashman called on local residents to have their say on the proposed boundary changes to Bald Hills and Carseldine and when the reaction was a definite “no” she worked with the community to ensure the changes would not be made.
The proposal put forward by the State Government was to move the boundary between Bald Hills and Carseldine, extending Carseldine at the expense of Bald
“The boundary could have been moved if the Department of Natural Resources accepted a proposal for the extension of Carseldine to include the area between the Gympie Arterial Road, Linkfield Road, Roghan Road and the railway line,” Cr Cashman said.
“Following discussions with residents, who were not in favour of the changes, I let the State Government know that the boundary should remain as it is and encouraged local residents to let the Government know their views”.
Late last week, the Minister for natural resources decided to abandon the proposal.
“The decision was based on the strong message from the Bald Hills community concerning the shrinking boundaries of their suburb and its effect on the area’s identity and potential growth,” Cr Cashman said.
“It is very good result and shows just what can be done when we work together.”
