Bracken Ridge ward Councillor Carol Cashman has announced the addition of a ceramic tile mural to add the finishing touches to the streetscape following completion of the Gawain Road shops beautification project.
Cr Cashman said that the three-panel mural will add colour to the local shopping centre providing a pleasant atmosphere to shop and to relax.
“The design of the mural will begin this month,” said Cr Cashman.
“There are two artists who will be involved in the project, Wendy Hatfield Witt and Stephanie Outridge Field, and they expect to have the mural installed by the end of May.”
“Local children will work with the artist on the design,” Cr Cashman said.
The mural is to be a tiled area on the western wall of the shops. The tiles will be hand painted and fully glazed.
“The inclusion of the mural at the Gawain Road Shopping Centre is as a result of a decision by the Communities Reference Group and I’m looking forward to seeing the end result,” said Cr Cashman.
The Gawain Road shops beautification project was launched in December 2006 and is expected to be completed by the end of March. The new footpath pavement is half way through completion and further work will include new street trees, and garden beds, seats and bins and a drinking fountain.
A celebration of the upgrade with a range of activities and entertainment will be held on Saturday 21st April starting at 10am.
