New boat lane for Deepwater Bend11 May, 2007 Sign Up for free e-mail updates!
Bracken Ridge Ward Councillor Carol Cashman has welcomed State Government funding to add an extra lane for the Deepwater Bend boat ramp.
Cr Cashman said to secure funding from the State Government, she had pushed for the Council to upgrade the boat ramp’s car park which was completed earlier this financial year.
“The ramp and car park upgrade will allow boating enthusiasts to enjoy our great nearby waterways without having to stand by their boat and wait 45 minutes before launching off,” she said.
Cr Cashman said the original boat ramp had been constructed with only one lane, which caused water-traffic chaos for boaters.
“The amount of traffic this boat ramp endures means that an extra lane is imperative for the community.”
“We have had instances of ‘ramp rage’ as the two way traffic banking up to use the one-lane ramp has created confusion, and then anger as to who’s next.”
“As a result of this ramp rage, families living within our own community have opted to travel inconvenient lengths to other boat ramps at Bribie Island and Jacob’s Well and I’m glad to say this will happen no more,” Cr Cashman said.
Cr Cashman said the proposed construction for the new lane was scheduled for June/July this year.
