Councillor Carol Cashman wants to advise residents that the proposal for development of a shopping centre on Bracken Ridge Road has been submitted once again.
Cr Cashman said the development generated a lot of protest and a large petition when advertised previously and it was important the community was made fully aware that the application had been submitted once more.
“When a development application attracts such a large petition, it’s important that the community has their say on the issue and that it is not allowed to slip under the radar.”
“Since the application was last rejected, they have failed to take down the previous sign advertising the application on the property and it may be difficult to see that a new sign has gone up unless closely inspected,” Cr Cashman said.
Cr Cashman advised that the application had been rejected once before because of the environmental values of the land and the fact that the block was a part of the Tinchi Tamba Wetlands system.
“There’s also the very important economic consideration as to whether the area needs another set of shops, especially since the Gawain Road shops nearby were recently upgraded,” said Cr Cashman.
Cr Cashman said if residents were concerned about the application, they could call the Bracken Ridge Ward office on 3667 6000 to find out more.
