Rainwater Tanks - It never rains but it pours

11 July, 2007

The drought has caused a flood - of residents installing rainwater tanks!

The Council has been inundated with applications for rebates on rainwater tanks, receiving up to 800 a day in the run up to the end of the financial year.

The community response has been so great that Council had to draft 20 additional staff and 30 PCs and desks to process the applications, all within 24hrs!

Overall, 25,645 residential rainwater tank rebates were issued during the 2006/07 financial year.  More than 15,000 of these tanks had a capacity of 5,000L or greater.   Special thanks go to the Council's Rebate Team in Licensing and Compliance for doing an amazing job.

For information on the current rebates and new eligibility criteria please visit the Council's website at www.brisbane.qld.gov.au
