Several community grants have been awarded to various groups throughout the region to help local not-for-profit organisations develop programs, services and facilities.
Local organisations that received funding were the Sandgate and District Tennis Association, Ann's Street Party in Bracken Ridge and the Anglicare Refugee and Migrant Services (ARMS), Breakthrough Church Brisbane and the Craigslea State High School P&C.
Overall, 55 organisations across the city shared in the $945,000, which was announced recently by the Brisbane City Council.
Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said grants were awarded in the areas of arts, culture and heritage, community development and sport and recreation.
"These organisations provide invaluable services for the community and it is integral that we support them to achieve community outcomes and increase the quality of life of all Brisbane residents", he said.
The next round of funding will be open to applicants from August 6 to September 17.
