Bracken Ridge Ward residents have the opportunity to explore the world of butterflies and other bugs at Chermside Hills and Downfall Creek.
People of all ages are encouraged to discover more about the creatures that inhabit our world, with 16 activities covering six topics on the many popular species found in our backyard.
Councillor for Bracken Ridge Ward, Amanda Cooper, invites residents to get to know their co-inhabitants a little better by attending the fun and interesting activities.
“With an estimated ratio of insects to humans of 200 million to one, there is a lot we can learn about our environment.”
“I would encourage everyone to join in on the activities and get to know more about the huge number of creatures that live alongside us,” Cr Cooper said.
Anyone curious about ants can visit Chermside Hills on Saturday the 13th of October, between 10:30 and 12:30 am to explore the fascinating world of the insect that can lift 300 times its own weight. Also on offer at Downfall Creek on the 11th of November are the Cicadas, crickets and other critters presentation by Michelle Larsen, resident ‘bug lady’ for Channel 10’s Totally Wild and Toasted TV.
The Butterflies and other bugs in Brisbane event will be held between October through to November with other activities available throughout Brisbane Activities cost ten dollars per event for the general public and free for BCC bushcare, Habitat and Catchment group members.
It is recommended e-mail addresses be provided to ensure accurate notification of the event details. Further information or to obtain a registration form, please visit the Bracken Ridge Ward Office or call 3667 6000.
